From the TESOL-Spain XX National Convention
Coordinator:Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Fashions come and fashions go... I have to admit that when I was twenty I was wearing flared trousers and platform shoes, which I notice are making a comeback now. There have been plenty of fashions in ELT over the last twenty years and some of them are also making a comeback, whilst others have been consigned to oblivion - for the time being, anyway. The TESOL-Spain XX National Convention will, I hope, help us both to reflect upon the past and all that we have learned from it and also to aspire to a "Future Perfect", that mythical place that maybe we'll get to some day... And, apart from anything else, we'd love you all to come and participate in the celebration of our twentieth birthday!
With the Convention just three months away, things are looking pretty good. Not only do we have a very fine site, kindly offered to us by the Universidad Complutense, but we also have a very exciting programme lined up. The Convention Committee has been working flat out to get as much information as possible ready for this pre-programme and although there are a few details still to be confirmed, by the time you send in those registration forms they will all be sorted out. We are delighted to announce that the registration fee remains the same as for the 1996 Convention, and that this year full time students do not have to become members of TESOL-Spain.
Don't forget to register early (postmarked April 1st at the latest for the full discount) and to sign up for the Gala Dinner, as places are limited.
We are especially pleased to be offering a Pre-Conference Computer Workshop, sponsored by St Louis University and at no extra cost, but regret to say that we can only accommodate 30 people, so sign up now to be sure of a place.
We're looking forward to seeing you at what promises to be a very special 20th Birthday Convention!
Saludos,
Hilary Plass, Convention Coordinator 1997
