Dear fellow TESOLler,

The 23rd National TESOL-Spain Convention will be held at the University San Pablo-CEU, Madrid from 24th - 26th March 2000. The theme of the convention is Managing Learning: Learning and Helping to Learn. It links teacher and learner activities in the classroom to successful learning outcomes. This year's plenary, semi-plenary and key-note speakers include Shellagh Deller, Grethe Hooper-Hansen, Paul Seligson, Dave Sperling (of Dave's ESL Cafe), Scott Thornbury and Andrew Wright. So far we have over 100 presentations by speakers based in Brazil, Canada, England, Hungary, the Lebanon, Scotland, Spain, the United Arab Emerates and the United States. Presentations will cover topics relating to contemporary ELT issues, for example, language and relationships between native and non-native speakers in our global world, and the role of technology in ELT. There will also be a wealth of presentations with a practical slant, on approaches, techniques and methodology, for infants, primary, secondary, university and adult teachers and learners. These include classroom management topics, such as techniques in classroom discipline and role relationships between teachers and younger pupils in the learning environment. There will be a number of presentations on a range of ESP courses, for example, Business English, English for Academic Purposes and English for Medical Purposes and aspects of course design and evaluation. In addition to plenaries, semi-plenaries, talks, papers, workshops, demonstrations and informal Question and Answer sessions, participants will also have the chance to get involved in the TESOL SIG's (special interest groups). There will be the opportunity to make contact with colleagues who share the same professional interests, to exchange ideas and socialize, and even look for prospective employers/employees. As usual, there will be product presentations and the event will be fully supported by the publishing houses and testing institutions, both nationally and internationally. All the latest materials for both the teacher and the classroom will be on display. To take advantage of our reduced pre-registration fees you can register now using our pre-registration form. Alternatively, if you would like more information you should write to Annie McDonald, Universidad San Pablo-CEU, Faculdad Humanidades, Paseo de Juan XXIII 6, Desp 3, 28040, Madrid or email mcdonald.fhm@ceu.es or you could phone 617 864 318. TESOL-Spain events are for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages in Spain. With speakers from around the world and within Spain, we'll all be working together to improve the teaching and learning of English in Spain. I look forward to sharing the opportunities for professional updating and development with you at our next national convention.

Best wishes,
