(New) learning technologies in the intercultural EFL classroom. Digital hype or serious change of paradigm?Abstract:
Modern technologies facilitate new forms of learning. Technology-enhanced language learning (TELL) has seen dramatic changes in the facilitation of self-directed learning opportunities, but also in enhancing the intercultural learning experience in classroom-based formal language learning. This plenary will investigate the potential of (new) technologies and how intercultural immersion teaching is supported through seamless learning approaches.
Biodata:
Professor of language methodology and technology-enhanced learning and teaching and head of the department of Continuing Professional Development and Educational Cooperation at the University of Teacher Education Vienna. Language teacher, teacher trainer, ELT author, international speaker.
Professor Do Coyle
Pluriliteracies at the heart of learning
Abstract:
In this plenary, I shall focus on the role of pluriliteracies in bilingual/CLIL settings through an integrated approach to deeper learning. I shall draw on an inclusive model for learning which values and positions language as our greatest learning tool and which emphasizes the need for transparent conceptual learning to be part of language learning and using. I shall explore the challenges to the way we design classroom learning to maximize learning potential for all learners- whatever age, stage and linguistic cultural background.

20 Questions” about CLIL... and some Research-based Answers
Abstract: This talk will approximate CLIL from an updated, critical, and research-based stance. Through a variant of the game “20 Questions”, it will showcase twenty of the most common queries which are at present
affecting CLIL characterization, implementation, research, and training and will employ empirical evidence from the latest investigations on the topic to address them. It will also discuss the chief pedagogical implications which these findings have for the different stakeholders, including Infant, Primary and Secondary Education teachers, private language schools, materials writers, researchers, or teacher trainers.
