TESOL-SPAIN in the 6th Fiesta de las Lenguas,
Gijón, Asturias.
For the third year running TESOL-SPAIN was
present in the 6th Fiesta de las Lenguas in Gijón, a
cultural event that has grown steadily since its inception and now attracts
literally thousands of students and teachers from all over the north of Spain.
Our participation this year was on two fronts: an interview in the Fiesta
magazine, and our sponsoring of a table in the área de encuentro y
descubrimiento de las lenguas, one of the key attractions of the
Fiesta.
Robin Walker, the Regional Officer, took
advantage of the pages of the magazine to explain the aims and workings of
TESOL-SPAIN, whilst students from the Escuela Universitaria de Turismo de
Asturias, under the guidance of the TESOL-SPAIN members in Asturias, manned
a table at which the younger visitors to the Fiesta, especially students of
ESO, could practice their English in a relaxed way. Chatting, playing games,
talking about music, but always without the fear of making mistakes in front of
their teachers, the TESOL-SPAIN table was in constant demand.
