Teacher Talking Time
Teacher Talking Time
is a term familiar to most of us. In the past, if this part of our lesson was excessive, it was often seen as bad classroom practice. The more the teacher talked, the less opportunity there was for the students to speak. More recently, there seems to have been a shift in opinion as the teacher's voice may provide the students with the only exposure to English that they come in contact with. From another perspective, teacher talking is a necessary condition for teacher development. Many of us attend a variety of seminars and workshops during the academic year. Most of us are prepared to get involved in activities set by lecturers and trainers. Conventions are often seen as an opportunity to listen and learn from those wiser than ourselves.
This year at the 22nd TESOL-Spain National Convention, along with the wide range of formal presentations, plenaries, workshops and roundtables, we are introducing a number of informal 'teacher talking sessions for everyone to get involved in. We would like to give you the opportunity to be active participants, offering others the benefit of you own wealth of experience.
We will be looking at aspects of 'teacher talk' and at the same time providing a forum for teachers to talk to each other. If you have anything to say on these topics or have any other questions you would like answered, come along and share you ideas.
