More and more websites now
provide video material which can provide very interesting and stimulating
access to real, genuine English. Here are some ideas for exploring such
material.
Make predictions
of what you think you will see and hear first. The accompanying caption and
maybe other text or images will help you. Sometimes it is a good idea to watch
the video without sound first.
When you have seen
the complete video write a very brief / general summary.
Remember the most
important words are often stressed and sound strongest.
How does what you
see aid what you hear?
To analyse and
understand more remember you can stop, forward, rewind the video as you wish.
Other text and images on the site may also provide more
information.
Make some notes on what you hear or
see.
Don't forget to ask your
teacher or use the online grammar and dictionary links below to check any
vocabulary or grammar questions you might have.
For practice why not view the video one last time
without sound but this time, using your notes, speak the accompanying dialogue.
Ask your teacher to listen or record yourself and play it to your class.
