THE CONVENTION

As the theme ‘Working Together’ suggests, our 26th National Convention aims, as always, to appeal to and bring together practitioners from all sectors of English teaching. In the spirit of collaboration, TESOL-SPAIN invites teachers to share experiences from the full range of ELT, to tighten professional and personal relationships and to network in order to promote better teaching, and to face the challenges of the future.

The advent of the Internet and other information and communication technologies enables us to communicate over long distances via e-mail and video-conferencing, and access a wealth of authentic material through the Internet. New technologies also create opportunities for self-directed learning via multimedia applications, online chats and e-learning. But these new tools run the danger of becoming a purpose unto themselves instead of a teaching instrument. This convention will provide an opportunity to critically address the issues of working and networking in our contemporary teaching environment.

TESOL-SPAIN is delighted to be able to hold the 26th National Convention at the well-equipped premises of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Agrónomos at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. UPV (http://www.upv.es) is a dynamic, innovative public institution dedicated to research and teaching, with local, national and international connections.

Inviting and hospitable, Valencia allows one to sense the power of many centuries of history. Stone towers and sturdy buildings speak to us from the past. From the remains of the Roman forum founded by Junius Brutus located in today’s Plaza de la Virgen - part of the Roman city of Valentia - to the emblematic City of the Arts and Sciences (as pictured on our poster!), this town has transformed its physiognomy over the years while preserving its monuments from the past. Valencia’s mild climate is another reason to come and stay. You can find tourist information about the city at Agencia Valenciana de Turismo: (http://www.comunidad-valenciana.com), and our early finish at Sunday midday will leave Sunday afternoon for tourism, or return journeys to point of origin.

Jenny Brown, who has been TESOL-SPAIN’s official travel agent for the last 3 years, will be happy to help you with travel and accommodation arrangements jennybrown@ctv.es, or 652 021188).

Don't forget, if you sign up early you get pre-registration price and save money. Also, why not think about getting some of your colleagues to come along, too? A group of 5 can take advantage of institutional membership rates!

We look forward to seeing you at what promises to be an exciting and rewarding event.
