Daniel Brint
The shapes of stories: A genre approach to using literary texts in the classroom.
In this session, we will look at ways of making literary texts accessible and relevant by exploring some of the genre conventions and story structures that underpin narrative. There are many literary/cultural traditions with which students are already familiar (through films, video games and series, for example) although they might not have the tools for defining and critiquing them. Daniel will suggest some classroom activities that can be used to focus on genre to enjoy classic and contemporary texts and promote reading skills.
Paola Dell' Acqua
3 - 2 - 1 MAGIC TIME!!!
Can reading in class be a burden? Teachers struggle to find the right book, prepare activities and engage children.
Students are reluctant to read books that are not appealing and do after-reading exercises. But reading can be enjoyable for teachers and children alike.
In this presentation, I will share some tips for organizing reading for pleasure in class and also recommend books and activities for different ages.
Lola Delgado
Creating plays with our learners
Daniel and Lola will discuss how we can create theatrical productions with learners of different ages. Lola has written adapted classical texts into five plays, including 'Beowulf is you' which won second prize in a theatrical arts tournament in Madrid. She will share how drama can help learners develop all their skills, approach literature in an enjoyable way and reflect on themselves as human beings.
