Cross Curricular Iberian SIG

Iberian SIG - Cross Curricular Approaches

What’s this?

Members of two ELT associations, APPI from Portugal and TESOL-SPAIN, are starting up a Special Interest Group on cross-curricular programs and CLIL. By CLIL we aren’t just referring to “hard” CLIL or programs in which specialist subjects are taught in a Foreign Language. This group will embrace all kinds of cross-curricular approaches in ELT: hence our official name, the Cross-curricular Iberian SIG.

Aims:

  • Bring practitioners from all sectors in the Iberian Peninsula together - all practitioners who do any sort of cross-curricular work, PBL, in all its formats including those set in government curricular guidelines; hard and soft CLIL; whole school initiative such as interculturalism and social and emotional learning.
  • Encourage and invite other teaching practitioners to use cross-curricular approaches in their teaching by providing examples and guidelines
  • Provide a platform for sharing materials and snapshots of good practices and competences in language learning
  • Provide events and training sessions that are cross sector and cross Iberian. Opportunities to raise concerns and problems which are discussed in clinics to provide practical solutions.
