Honouring the Memory of Dr Luke Prodromou

Read on for a message from the TESOL MACEDONIA-THRACE team.

From Ms Maria-Araxi Sachpazian, TESOL MACEDONIA-THRACE:

Last month, we were informed of the untimely passing of one of our founding members and supporters, Dr. Luke Prodromou, who was an influential figure in International ELT, an author of ELT materials, teacher trainer and lifelong proponent of the active use of theatre in language learning. The fact that he was based in the Thessaloniki area and for several years worked for the British Council Teaching and Teacher Training Centre made him one of the teachers and trainers who are responsible for a whole generation of passionate ELT people. I am honoured to have been one of them.

Luke was not simply a TESOL MTH/NG Founding Member or one of our Honorary Members. He was an ELT figure that put Thessaloniki on the map, he was the soul of our TESOL MTH/NG Annual Conference recruiting volunteers for his performances that beautifully laced the closing ceremony of our conference. Most importantly, he was a wise man we could turn to and ask for advice. Respecting the wishes of his family and loved ones, we have remained silent.

In the coming months TESOL MTH/NG will organise a session to honour this great man and his work. In the meantime, we send our deepest condolences to his family and to his partner, hoping that time will help them heal. We would like to share the following link from 2016 TESOL MTH/NG Conference and the performance directed by Luke Prodomou entitled 'A muse of fire'.
